Barred Rock

Product ID: 2BR
This dual-purpose chicken is a fan favorite among hobbyists and farmers. Barred Rocks are large birds and good layers, prized for their distinctive barred feather pattern. They are a beautiful and productive addition to any flock, although roosters of this breed may be loud.

Barred Rock Chickens: Productive and Attractive Layers

Barred Rock chicken eggs are large and brown. They are reliable producers, but production will slow down in winter months; however, this cold-hardy breed will continue to lay eggs in cold weather if their needs are met.

With optimal care and climate conditions, their egg yield is considered very good to excellent. Growers can expect between 200-280 eggs per year. They typically do not go broody.

This heritage breed is quite striking, sure to add some beauty to any flock. They have a beautiful black and white barred feather pattern, along with yellow feet and beaks. They look very similar in appearance to Cuckoo Marans.

These chickens grow to be quite large, so they are considered a dual-purpose breed. Barred Rocks are very cold-hardy and will tolerate heat. They are suitable for a variety of climate conditions.

This is a great beginner breed. They are friendly and docile, both with humans and other birds. If you farm other poultry like ducks, turkeys, or geese, Barred Rocks are highly suitable for mixed flocks. They thrive in free-range or pastured poultry environments.

Hens tend to be on the quiet side, but may be louder than other breeds. Roosters also tend to be on the louder side, so keep that in mind if you plan to raise a backyard flock.

Average mature weight for males is 8 lbs, females average 6 lbs.
