The Story Behind Myers Poultry Farm

Starting a Poultry Farm

Myers Poultry has grown from humble beginnings in rural Pennsylvania into a trusted poultry hatchery. Today, we serve local poultry farms in the area as well as growers nationwide across all 50 states.

Decades ago, Myers Poultry only worked with a handful of breeds. Today, our chicken hatchery is known for broilers, turkeys, egg layers, and ducks, among others. While the business has expanded over the years, we never stray too far from our small town roots.

The heart of our success lies with a determined teenage girl named Diane Myers. For over 30 years, her hard work and commitment to quality have defined Myers Poultry. Her legacy continues to guide our business operations today.

Diane Myers grew up on her family’s farm in South Fork, Pennsylvania. From a young age, she worked alongside her parents, feeding and caring for dozens of cows, pigs, and chickens.

Oftentimes she was up before dawn, busy caring for animals or helping with farm chores. While she enjoyed being around livestock, she had no idea that poultry farming would one day become her lifelong pursuit.

Diane got her start in the poultry industry by chance. Her neighbor, a local farmer, happened to specialize in started capons. He needed a couple of extra farmhands to keep up with the level of demand.

At the time, Diane wasn’t familiar with caponizing, but her curiosity drove her to help out. What began as a favor turned into a passion. Diane quickly mastered the art of caponizing and found herself deeply invested in the work.

The Birth of Myers Poultry
In 1988, Diane was asked to take over the business operations. This marked the official beginning of what is now Myers Poultry—originally known as Myers Started Capons.

Diane's commitment to quality and her hands-on approach to every aspect of the farm helped it grow. She didn't want to settle for second best. She wanted to be ranked among the best chicken hatcheries and poultry suppliers in the area.

What started as a focus on high-quality started capons gradually expanded. Myers Poultry began offering a wide variety of day-old poultry, including broilers, layers, ducks, goslings, and gamebirds.

Today, our poultry farm ships across the United States, serving both small-scale backyard farmers and large commercial operations.

A Growing Legacy
Despite the growth of Myers Poultry, some things never change. The chicken hatchery is still located just down the road from where Diane grew up, and Diane herself remains an integral part of the business.
