Australorp Chicks for Sale: A Dual-Purpose Layer Breed

This layer produces large brown eggs. Even in extreme weather conditions, these birds remain productive and continue to lay eggs. Because of their egg laying ability and high output, they are a staple in many flocks.

With optimal care and climate conditions, growers can expect excellent egg yield between 200-300 eggs per year. Black Australorp hens typically do not go broody.

Females have glossy, stark black plumage with a beautiful blue to green iridescent sheen. Males look quite similar, but with a robust build and a more prominent green sheen on their tail feathers. This is a large layer breed, so they are suitable as a dual-purpose bird.

Black Australorp chickens are fairly low-maintenance. Australorps are cold-hardy and heat tolerant, so they will thrive in a variety of climate conditions. They would be suitable for free-range or pastured poultry settings.

Australorps are one of the friendliest chicken breeds. They even get along well with other chickens and poultry, so they do well within mixed flocks. This popular beginner breed is a versatile choice for farm life or backyard chicken life.

Average mature weight for males is 8.5 lbs, females average 6.5 lbs.
