Black Sex Link Chickens for Sale: High Production Layers

This breed produces large brown eggs. Like all sex-link chickens, these birds are highly reliable when it comes to egg laying. In most cases, they will continue to provide eggs throughout the winter.

With optimal care and climate conditions, growers can expect excellent egg yield between 280-300 eggs per year. They typically do not go broody.

Because they are a cross, their appearance will vary. Females typically have black plumage with goldish, red hued highlights along their neck. They have yellow beaks and feet.

Males are usually lighter than females, and typically display the same feather pattern of Barred Rocks. They may have some reddish brown or green highlights, especially along the tail feathers. 

Much like their parent stock, these birds are quite eye catching and make a beautiful addition to any flock. For added efficiency, day-old baby chicks can be sexed by color. 

Black Sex Link chickens are cold-hardy and heat tolerant, so they will adapt to a variety of climate conditions. They are well-suited as free-range or pastured chicken. 

These birds are active and friendly, similar in temperament to the friendly Barred Rock chicken. Due to their easy-going nature, this chicken breed is a good choice for first time growers or hobbyists that wish to raise a backyard pet. 

Average mature weight for males is 8 lbs, females average 6 lbs.
