Golden Laced Wyandotte: A Beautiful and Reliable Layer

Golden Laced Wyandotte hens produce medium to large brown eggs. Shades can vary from light brown to medium brown.

With optimal care and climate conditions, this chicken breed is considered to be a good laying hen. Growers can expect a good egg yield of 200-300 eggs per year. They typically do not go broody but it can happen occasionally.

Golden Laced Wyandotte chickens are commonly used within the show circuit. Females have gold to golden brown plumage that is sharply outlined with black along the edges. The small, tightly spaced feathers give the illusion of a lace pattern.

Males look similar, but they have long sickle shaped tail feathers, as well as more gold feathers along their head, neck, and saddle area.

Wyandotte chickens are a heavy, large-bodied bird, making them a suitable dual-purpose breed for growers. This breed is cold-hardy and heat tolerant. They thrive in cold climates due to their thick plumage and close-fitting comb.

This breed is active, friendly, and well-mannered. Golden Laced Wyandottes are an ideal pick for first time chicken keepers and hobbyists that want to start a backyard flock. They are suitable as free-range or pastured chickens.

Average mature weight for males is 8.5 lbs, females average 6.5 lbs.
