Jumbo Pekins: The Largest Pekin Duck
Aside from their additional size, Jumbo Pekins are very similar in appearance to
White Pekins. These birds have classic white feathers with orange beaks and shanks.
The Jumbo Pekin is selectively bred for its large size and high meat yield, making them one of the best duck breeds for meat production.
They take a bit longer to reach full size than the White Pekin, but they are still considered to be fast-growers. The males reach about 11 pounds and females 9.5 pounds in three months.
Jumbo Pekins produce excellent tasting eggs with large yolks. For bakers that want to add a unique richness to their cakes and pastries, this is the bird you should add to your flock.
In optimal conditions, growers can expect the Jumbo Pekin to produce 140-175 eggs per year.
These birds do not fly. These birds are not natural mothers and are unlikely to go broody. Due to their conformation, they are not suitable as show birds.
Ideal processing times are at 7, 12.5, and 18 weeks for minimal pin feathers. Jumbo Pekins can reach a mature weight between 9 to 13.5 lbs.
