This bantam originated in Belgium in the 1900s. Like the Mille Fleur, Porcelain d'Uccles have feathered feet and muffs that give them a unique charm. Their coloration is one of the most popular varieties.
Porcelain d'Uccles: A Rare and Beautiful Bantam
Porcelain d’Uccle chickens have taupe, straw colored plumage accented by lavender and steely blue highlights throughout. This combination gives off a shiny and porcelain appearance in certain lighting. Their wing tips also give off a frosty sheen in the sunlight. Their coloration is truly stunning and highly sought after.
In cold or wet conditions, their feathered feet require extra care. Feathers may need to be trimmed and groomed occasionally to prevent dirt and mites from building up.
Because of their attractive coloration, these birds are popular within the show circuit. Porcelain d’Uccle bantams are also quite docile and friendly, so they make for excellent backyard pets. This breed is typically good around children.
They produce small tinted eggs. If kept in optimal conditions, they have a fair egg yield between 100-120 per year.
This breed is not suitable for extreme climates. Bantam chickens are more likely to go broody. This breed is likely to hatch and raise other birds as well.
