Amberlink

Product ID: 2AL
This hybrid is part of the sex-link family. Similar to the Red Sex Link, Amberlinks are excellent producers of large to extra-large brown eggs. This breed is a natural at foraging, making them a good choice for growers who raise free-range or pastured chicken.

Amberlink: A Great Laying Hen

The Amberlink chicken produces large brown eggs, which may be slightly darker and richer in color than other sex-link breeds. Their eggs are consistent in size and egg shell strength. This is one of the best laying hens for backyard or commercial production.

With optimal care and climate conditions, growers can expect excellent egg yield between 285-300 eggs per year. They are bred to be prolific egg layers, so they typically do not go broody.

Amberlink hens have creamy to solid white plumage with hints of amber brown and gold visible. They may have reddish tips on their wings and tail feathers.

Amberlink roosters are usually solid white, with more splashes of red and amber throughout their plumage. Overall, this breed is lightweight and compact in size, giving them an excellent feed conversion rate.

Since they are highly adaptive and natural-born foragers, these birds will thrive as pastured poultry. This reliable layer chicken is cold-hardy and heat tolerant.

Overall, this breed is calm, docile, and easy to handle. They are suitable for first time chicken owners that want to raise backyard birds for high egg production. This chicken breed is highly social and loves to be around other birds, so they are ideal for large or mixed flocks.

Average mature weight for males is 4.25 lbs, females average 4 lbs.

Quick Facts About Amberlink Chickens

What breeds make up the parent stock for this chicken? They are the result of Rhode Island Red roosters bred with White Plymouth Rock hens.

Why doesn't this chicken breed true? It's not possible for hybrid chickens to breed true. While the first-generation hybrid will inherit and improve upon the desirable traits of the parent stock, it does not get passed down to the second generation.

What is the difference between this breed and other sex-link breeds? They are all excellent egg layers and lay large brown eggs. The main difference is their coloration, as well as the parent stock used to create each hybrid.

What is the benefit of a sex-link breed? Growers and farmers who need accurate sexing value sex-link breeds. Amberlink chicks can be accurately sexed just by the color of their feathers, while other breeds must be vent or wing sexed, which is not always 100% accurate.

Is this breed suitable for beginners or hobbyists? Yes, any sex-link breed is a great beginner friendly chicken. As a high egg production breed, they will also keep your homestead flush with eggs year-round.

What color are Amberlink eggs? They are a brown egg layer, but the shade will vary from bird to bird due to their own unique genetics. Sometimes, this breed will lay slightly darker eggs than their fellow sex-link counterparts.
