Easter Egger Chicks for Sale: Colorful Eggs

Easter Egger hens are best known for their colorful eggs, most commonly in shades of blue or green. Occasionally (about 15% of the time) their eggs may be cream or pale brown. The egg color your hen lays the first time will remain the same throughout her lifetime.

With optimal care, growers can expect between 300 and 310 eggs per year. These hens have been bred to be great egg layers, with a focus on year-round egg production and egg color. They are the perfect combination of beauty and functionality. On rare occasions, they may go broody.

As a hybrid, there is no defined set of standards or features; each bird is one-of-a-kind. Some will develop beards, muffs, or tufts, but these traits vary from bird to bird. Feather patterns can range widely as well.

Their plumage can range from creams and tans to multicolored shades of tan, gray, or brown. Easter Egger chicks are typically white with black markings and will develop their full adult coloration as they mature.

Because the breeding focuses more so on egg color and egg production, appearance is secondary and not prioritized. Part of the fun of owning a hybrid chicken is seeing how their feathers and traits develop as they reach laying maturity.

These birds are friendly and cold-hardy, making them well-suited to a variety of climates and coop setups. With strong foraging instincts, they will thrive in a free-range setting. Their calm temperament and adaptability make them perfect for backyard flocks and families with children.

Average mature weight for males is 4.4 lbs, females average 3.5 lbs.

FAQs About Easter Egger Chickens for Sale

Is this breed recognized by the American Poultry Association? No, generally hybrids are not recognized by the Standard of Perfection, but occasionally they will make exceptions for breeds with unique traits or interesting backgrounds.

Is there a bantam size version of this breed? Yes, they are also offered in bantam size, although we do not carry them at this time.

Why isn't my hen laying blue eggs? Because of the nature of hybrids and genetics, we cannot guarantee what color your chickens will lay. About 85% of the time, our Easter Egger chickens will lay blue or green eggs, but there will be variance because of their genetics.

We suggest ordering a variety of layers to have better chances at getting your desired egg color. Our rainbow or premium assortment would be a good option to give you colorful eggs at a lower price.

When do Easter Egger chickens start laying eggs? They will start laying eggs between 19-22 weeks, or about 5 to 6 months of age. This is dependent on the time of year, their environment, and their rate of maturity.

What breeds are used for the parent stock? Our strain is developed with a White Leghorn and Americana-type male. The White Leghorns are used for egg production, while Americanas are used for egg color.
