Plymouth Blue Rock

Product ID: 2PBR
This is one of 7 color varieties of the Plymouth Rock breed. Blue Rocks are a hybrid cross, valued for their attractive blue-lavender plumage and reliable egg laying abilities. They are a popular chicken breed for homesteaders and backyard growers.

Plymouth Blue Rock: Brown Egg Layer

This breed produces large brown eggs, ranging in color from light to medium brown. They are a hybrid cross between a Blue Andalusian rooster and Barred Plymouth Rock hen

With optimal care and climate conditions, this breed is considered to be a good layer. Growers can expect good yield between 250-260 eggs per year. They typically do not go broody.

As a hybrid, their appearance will vary from bird to bird. Females typically have beautiful blue-gray plumage, with darker blue plumage around the head and neck. Occasionally, they may have some barring patterns or a lighter shade of plumage that is more lavender in color.

Males look similar to females, but their plumage may be a darker blue color with more pronounced barring patterns. Males typically have more contrast in their feathers than females. They also have larger tails with sickle shaped feathers.

They are natural-born foragers, so they will thrive in free-range environments or as pastured chickens. This breed is tolerant of cold and hot weather.

These birds have a calm and friendly demeanor. Plymouth Blue Rock chickens typically do not mind being handled. They are suitable for beginners that are raising chickens for the first time and ideal for backyard flocks.

Average mature weight for males is 6 lbs, females average 5 lbs.
