Silver Laced Wyandottes: A Beautiful and Friendly Breed

Silver Laced Wyandotte hens produce medium to large brown eggs. Shades can range from light brown to medium brown. Because they are adaptable to cold climates, they will continue to be reliable egg layers in the winter.

With optimal care and climate conditions, growers can expect a good egg yield of 200-300 eggs per year. They typically do not go broody, but it can happen on occasion.

Silver Laced Wyandotte chickens are widely regarded as one of the most beautiful chicken breeds. Females have silvery to white feathers, sharply outlined with black along the edges. This gives them the distinct lace pattern the breed is known for.

Males look similar, but they have long sickle shaped tail feathers, as well as more white along their head, neck, and saddle area.

Silver Laced Wyandottes are a large, heavy-bodied breed. While they are typically used for show or egg laying purposes, their size makes them suitable as a dual-purpose bird.

This breed is cold hardy and heat tolerant. Wyandottes do particularly well in the cold due to their thick plumage and close-fitting comb. They are ideal for pastured poultry or free-range environments.

Wyandotte chickens are active, friendly, and well-mannered. This attractive breed is a great pick for beginners or hobbyists that want to start a backyard flock.

Average mature weight for males is 8.5 lbs, females average 6.5 lbs.
