Breed Comparison Chart
This attractive breed looks similar to a wild Mallard duck, but with more robust bodies and brighter feathers. Originally from France, the Rouen duck is a popular meat bird typically served in high-end restaurants.

Rouen Ducks for Sale: French Meat Bird

Feather coloration of this breed closely resembles a Mallard duck. Males have green heads with a white collar and a light gray body, while females have a brown head with brown mottled plumage. Both sexes have a pronounced blue stripe present on their wings.

While other breeds do grow significantly larger, this is still one of the top breeds to raise for meat. They are said to have the most flavorful and tender duck meat, which makes them an ideal choice for growers that cater to niche markets or fine dining restaurants.

Rouen ducks are slow-growers compared to commercial ducks like the Pekin, but the extra grow out time is what gives their meat a rich and unique flavor compared to production breeds.

They are not known for their egg production like the Khaki Campbell, so this breed is primarily valued for meat production or ornamental purposes. In optimal conditions, they will lay up to 180 eggs per year.

These birds are good foragers and curious about their surroundings, so they fare well as pastured poultry. They also make good pets due to their calm disposition.

These birds do not fly and typically do not hatch or raise their own young.

With optimal care, this breed can reach a mature weight between 5 to 7.25 lbs.
