While not as fast as the Cornish Cross, our Red Bro Yield is the fastest grower out of the red broiler chickens. This hybrid is crossed with a Red Bro female and a Color Yield male. The Yield variety closely rivals the Cornish Cross in overall meat yield and feed conversion.
Red Bro Yield: Fastest-Growing Colored Broiler
If quick processing times are a priority, then the Red Bro Yield is the ideal alternative meat bird for your farm. They are ready for processing a full week earlier than the Red Bro. For growers that don't want to use faster growing breeds, the Color Yield hyrbrid broiler is a good compromise.
Cold-tolerant and good foragers, the Red Bro Yield is highly suitable as a pasture-raised chicken. They also thrive in free-range environments. Colored broilers tend to retain more of their natural instincts, making them highly suitable for small farms and homesteads that prefer to raise chickens outdoors.
Before moving outdoors, keep your meat chicks in the brooder for at least three to four weeks until they start developing their adult feathers. Consider the local climate and time of year before putting your chickens on pasture. A dry, warm day with similar temperature conditions as your brooder is best.
Appearance may vary, but they typically have light red feathers with a layer of white feathers underneath. They also have yellow beaks, feet, and shanks. Color Yield broilers have a large, broad breast, but a shorter breastbone than the Jackie broiler.
Their feed conversion rates are superior to
the Red Bro, but not as good as
the Cornish Cross.
Growers can expect a conversion rate of 1.97 to 2.3 between 7 to 9 weeks. With optimal care, this colored broiler can reach a live weight of 4.75 to 6.35 lbs in 7 to 9 weeks. Available as straight run only.
