Strengthening Our Chick Delivery with Highland Ag Transport
Myers Poultry Farm is continuing to invest in the safe, reliable transportation of day-old chicks and poultry by working with Highland Ag Transport LLC, a specialized agricultural transportation company under shared ownership with Myers Poultry.
Highland Ag Transport was established to provide dependable transportation for live poultry while giving the companies greater control over equipment, scheduling, animal care and delivery conditions. The operation supports Myers Poultry deliveries and may also provide transportation services for other hatcheries and poultry businesses.
Transportation Built Around Live Poultry
A load of day-old chicks cannot be treated like ordinary freight. Conditions inside the trailer change with the weather, humidity, traffic, and number of birds on board. Drivers must monitor the trailer throughout the trip and adjust its systems as needed.
Highland Ag Transport uses trailers designed specifically for live poultry. Ventilation, heating, and cooling systems help maintain appropriate conditions while the birds are in transit. Drivers and helpers are trained to load and unload carefully, watch trailer conditions, and stay in contact with hatchery and farm personnel along the route.
“Our goal is to provide the same level of care during transportation that the chicks receive at the hatchery,” said Andrew Myers. “Having more direct involvement in the delivery process helps us coordinate schedules, manage equipment, and respond to changing conditions along the route.”
New Equipment for Chick Deliveries
Highland Ag Transport has added a Kenworth T880 tractor to its chick-hauling operation. Paired with specialized live-poultry trailers, the truck supports long routes, overnight travel, and the time-sensitive schedules that come with delivering day-old birds.
Dependable equipment is only part of the process. Hatchery staff, drivers, and receiving farms must also stay closely coordinated so birds can be loaded and delivered within the planned timeframe.
More Control Over Large-Order Deliveries
Myers Poultry has shipped and delivered poultry across the United States for decades. Highland Ag Transport adds another option for larger orders and routes that are well suited to a dedicated chick trailer.
Dedicated transportation can provide several advantages:
- Better coordination between hatch times and delivery schedules
- Equipment designed specifically for live poultry
- Direct communication among the hatchery, drivers, and receiving farms
- Ongoing monitoring of trailer temperature and ventilation
- Greater flexibility when weather, traffic, or route conditions change
The goal is to help chicks and poults arrive healthy, active, and ready to settle into the brooder.
Supporting Small Farms and Commercial Growers
Every poultry order is different. Myers Poultry serves customers ranging from families raising a small flock to commercial farms ordering thousands of meat birds or turkey poults. Our team considers the size and type of order, destination, timing, and available routes to determine the best way to get the birds to the farm.
Highland Ag Transport gives us another option when planning larger farm and commercial deliveries. A dedicated chick trailer can be especially valuable for substantial orders of Cornish Cross broilers, alternative meat birds, replacement poultry, or turkey poults. However, not every order will require or qualify for a dedicated truck route.
Separate Companies with a Shared Commitment
Myers Poultry Farm LLC and Highland Ag Transport LLC are separate legal and operating companies under shared ownership. Myers Poultry remains responsible for hatching, selling, and coordinating poultry orders, while Highland Ag Transport provides specialized agricultural transportation services.
This structure allows each company to focus on its area of expertise while working together to provide a more closely coordinated delivery experience.
Continuing to Invest in Poultry Care
Highland Ag Transport reflects Myers Poultry’s continued commitment to improving every part of the poultry-ordering process—from managing hatchery conditions and preparing birds for shipment to coordinating their arrival at the farm.
As our operation grows, we will continue evaluating equipment, transportation methods, and delivery routes that can improve reliability and support the needs of our customers.
